Who We Are

Friends of Heritage Square is a focused group of Astorians who have assembled to reignite the vision of Heritage Square as a public gathering place. Phase One was dedicated in 2014 with the completion of The Garden of Surging Waves. We have worked diligently the past 16 months to gather information about the possibilities and opportunities for a downtown plaza. The potential is enormous. Those who hold Astoria dear will enjoy the values this public space will reflect. All Astorians will recognize the legacy and foresight of those that dream big now, and take action.

Friends of Heritage Square invites you to join us in imagining what a Downtown Plaza can be not only for us as citizens, but for future generations of Astorians. This space, bordered by Duane and Exchange Streets, and by 11th and 12th Streets, is a treasure waiting to be realized in the center of Astoria. Let's begin to dream big and make it a reality!

The historical data from citizen input, as well as the many physical attributes desired for

such a plan validates the merits of the size and location for this downtown site. The Square's uses and activities are limited only by our collective imaginations. The Time is Now!

Friends of Heritage Square is dedicated to managing and overseeing the design, construction, maintenance, and ongoing operation of Astoria's Heritage Square. This reawakened effort to complete Heritage Square has been presented to City Council and was warmly received. We invite your organization to visualize how this dynamic gathering place can provide opportunities for you.

We want this vibrant and necessary public square to reflect our unique community, history, and culture. This will best be served by creating a functional, flexible space that evolves over time with use.

Our collective energies and ideas can and will be transformational.

We would love to personally share our vision and excitement. Please let us know when we might schedule such an opportunity and answer any questions your group may have.

Please consider becoming a part of this vital, legacy project.
